We have a long history of innovation in dental education and research. The Dental School of The London Hospital Medical College was formed in 1911 and moved into the current Dental Institute in 1965. The Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry was formed in 1995 and merged with Queen Mary, University of London in the same year.

The School shares the vision of Queen Mary that learning takes place in a research environment that enriches the teaching process. It also acknowledges its location in the East End of London and embraces the potential this offers for teaching and learning. Barts and The London Institute of Dentistry offers a friendly, focused and successful environment for postgraduate study.

The Sunday Times University Guide 2008 says:

"Queen Mary is a frontline institution within a globally excellent university. It offers a campus base for students in a parkside location, yet it lies just minutes from central London. Its teaching excellence spans dentistry, science, social science and arts subjects and its research profile is even better."
