Mapping genes for schizophrenia and manic depression
I have been assisting Hugh Gurling at UCL in attempts to identify genes
which modify susceptibility to the functional psychoses. Initially we
carried out linkage studies in samples of multiply affected pedigrees
and we are the process of publishing the results from whole-genome
scans. Having identified regions which provide evidence in support of
linkage, we are currently narrowing our search by using case-control
samples to carry out association studies. If positive, these will focus
attention on very small chromosomal regions and will hopefully allow us
to go on to define particular genetic variations having an effect on
susceptibility. Papers reporting results of our research to date can be
viewed on my publications page.
