The Boathouse

We boat from Lea Rowing Club's Boathouse on The River Lea, Clapton, East London. The Boathouse provides space to keep our boats, a gym for land training including many ergos, and also a venue for social events.

The Boathouse is located at the bottom of Springhill, E5

How to Get There

By Bus from Whitechapel

253 Bus from the Whitechapel Road - the bus stop is outside the station. Get off about 4 stops after Clapton BR station. The boathouse is at the bottom of Spring Hill which is on the right across some open parkland.

By Bus from Charterhouse Square

The 55 Bus runs from the stop outside the back gate of Charterhouse Square. Take the 55 to anywhere between Cambridge Heath and Hackney Central stations and then change onto the 253.(see above)

By Train from Charterhouse Square

Dash along Chiswell Street to Liverpool Street Station, or get the tube from Barbican and then hop on a train to Clapton. From the station at Clapton walk up the hill or jump on a 253.(see above)

By Bus from South Woodford

The 123 Bus runs along the North Circular, catch it on the opposite side of the North Circular to the halls of residence (there are some steps down to the road across the bridge). The 123 runs to Tottenham Lock, get of here and walk down the tow path to the Lea RC boathouse.

By bicycle there are several routes so ask a Boat Club member for advice.

Bike is probably the quickest way of getting to and from the boathouse.
