The Future
What to do now?
The Committee?
- Keeping ex-boat club members in touch with the boat club.
- Keeping ex-boat club members in touch with each other.
- Supporting the College Boat.
- We wanted to start a club with the three main intentions listed above.
- We would like to provide a point of contact for old members to keep up to date with how the boat club is doing. We'd like old members to use this to find out when and where reaces are and if they're free come along and support.
- We will be hosting an annual dinner in the summer time so that Old Boater's Club members can get together and relive some of the social spirit that's enjoyed by the members of the college boat club. We'd also like to see members meeting up at races to cheer their old team on.
- We would like to think that most, if not all, of the boat club members will have enjoyed their time at college and that they would like to help ensure the financial security of the club in the furture. For years at AGMs the suggestion of starting a covenant fund for the boat club has been made. Until now no one has ever acted on this suggestion. We have.
- You fill out a standing order form (£25 a year or more if you think you're able).
- Forms are available from the Chairman at the above address.
- Your money then goes into a bank account in the name of the Old Boaters' Club which will be managed by the Committee.
- We send you a letter 4 times a year keeping you up to date with race dates, results and invitations to events.
- Once a year the committee get together with the captain's of the men's and women's clubs and decide what the money is to be spent on.
We expect that the membership of the Old Boater's Club will steadily increase, meaning that more money will go into the bank account each year. The money will initially be spent on small repairs and replacements but in a few years we hope to be able to fund more substantial purchases. For example:
- New Boats
- Coaching
- A New Trailer
- A Minibus or other Towing Vehicle
- Riverside real estate for club house development.
Contact the Chairman: Angus Brown, The Old Boater's Club, College Hall, Charterhouse Square, London, EC1M 6BQ or e-mail him for a standing order form, contact sheet and more information, and spread the word.
